FAQs

💙 General Information

  • What is Echo Lake Farms?
Echo Lake Farms is a community-based initiative that provides safe, loving homes for foster children in a nurturing agricultural environment. It's the first project by RDY (Rotarians for the Development of Youth), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

  • What makes Echo Lake Farms different from traditional foster care?
Each foster family lives on its own 5-acre “mini farm,” alongside other foster families. The rural setting, shared mission, and sense of community reduce isolation and create a support network for both kids and caregivers.

  • Where is Echo Lake Farms located?
The project is situated on over 200 acres along the Clay and Putnam County line in Florida.

🏡 For Foster Families

  • Who can apply to live at Echo Lake Farms?
Blended families — couples who have biological or adopted children and are willing to foster — are welcome. Applicants must be licensed foster parents or willing to complete the required training.

  • What is included in each home?
Each home offers approximately 2,500 sq. ft. of living space with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and a flexible social room designed for the children.

  • What are the lease terms?
Upon acceptance, foster families sign a 2-year lease at significantly below market value. The intention is to reduce financial stress and promote long-term stability.

  • Are there any expectations for families who live on-site?
Yes. Residents are expected to participate in community life, maintain their property, and provide a safe, supportive home environment for children adjudicated by the courts.

  • Is the farm lifestyle required?
While agricultural involvement is encouraged, it is not mandatory. Families are free to engage with the land and animals at their own pace and interest level.

  • How do I apply to become a foster parent at Echo Lake Farms?
Start by becoming a licensed foster parent in Florida. Once approved, you can contact us at
